Building a Safer Future at CSR Interior Systems

The Challenge

CSR Interior Systems (IS) manages the manufacturing and distribution of plasterboard and related building products, tasks that involve heavy manual handling. Despite mechanical lifting aids like forklifts, most processes in their factories, distribution centres, and trade centres require manual effort, leading to common musculoskeletal injuries such as sprains and strains.

To address these challenges, CSR IS sought a comprehensive physiotherapy service to reduce injuries, provide early intervention, and enhance workplace safety. The goal was to ensure employees had regular access to clinicians and receive targeted support for injury prevention and recovery.

The program also incorporated individual consultations, new worker onboarding with a focus on manual handling, and holistic health support addressing factors like fatigue, stress, and overall wellbeing.

Real-time Monitoring and Reporting
Injury trends, risks, and treatment outcomes are tracked via My Occ Health Record to address hazards

The Implementation

The program was initially rolled out across eight sites in September 2023 and progressively expanded to additional locations throughout 2024. Key focus areas included:

Identifying hazardous manual tasks.
Improving worker confidence in safe handling techniques.
Building a supportive culture where clinicians engage with employees both during tasks and in treatment sessions.

The Impact

CSR IS’s holistic approach to injury prevention and early intervention has resulted in a healthier, more engaged workforce and a significant positive shift in workplace safety culture.
